Stop Chasing Symptoms: Start Listening to Your Body
There is a difference between getting rid of a symptom and understanding why your body is experiencing it.
A headache. Fatigue. Trouble sleeping. Digestive discomfort. Skin changes. An irregular menstrual cycle. Hot flashes. Anxiety. A painful period.
When something doesn't feel right in our bodies, our first instinct is often to make the symptom go away. And understandably so. Nobody enjoys feeling uncomfortable or unlike themselves.
But what if, instead of immediately asking, “How do I get rid of this?”, we sometimes paused and asked a different question:
“What is my body trying to tell me?”
Symptoms Are More Than an Inconvenience
Our bodies are constantly communicating with us.
Sometimes that communication is subtle. Other times, it is impossible to ignore.
A change in your menstrual cycle may get your attention. A sudden change in your sleep may leave you wondering what is happening. Perhaps your digestion is different than it used to be, or your energy has changed. Maybe you have developed headaches that seem to occur at a particular time each month.
It can be tempting to look at each symptom as a separate problem.
Headache? Find something for headaches.
Trouble sleeping? Find something for sleep.
Hot flashes? Find something for hot flashes.
But the human body doesn't necessarily operate in isolated categories.
Your symptoms occur within the context of you—your history, your experiences, your daily life, your stressors, your patterns, and the many changes your body goes through over time.
That larger picture matters.
Why the Same Symptom Can Look Different From Person to Person
One of the principles of individualized homeopathy is that people are not simply their symptoms.
Two people can experience the same general complaint but have very different overall experiences.
For example, two women may both report difficulty sleeping.
One may struggle to fall asleep because her mind is constantly active.
Another may fall asleep easily but wake repeatedly during the night.
One may feel overheated.
Another may need extra blankets.
One may crave certain foods.
Another may have very little appetite.
One may notice the problem primarily around her menstrual cycle.
Another may notice it during periods of stress.
The word insomnia doesn't tell the entire story.
Neither does headache, PMS, hot flashes, digestive issues, or fatigue.
This is why a homeopathic consultation involves much more than simply identifying a symptom and selecting a remedy from a list.
Looking at the Whole Person
At Rustic Roots Homeopathy, I am interested in the bigger picture.
Stop Asking Only, “How Do I Make This Go Away?”
Sometimes the better question is:
“What is my body trying to tell me?”
That shift—from simply chasing symptoms to becoming curious about the whole person—is at the heart of the approach I bring to Rustic Roots Homeopathy.
